Announcing BOW: Buy or Wait, Our New Grocery Price Tracker

At Let's Talk Gizmo, we like building things. Today we are launching one we have been quietly running for months: BOW, short for Buy or Wait, a free grocery price tracker that answers one deceptively hard question. Is today's price actually good, or should I hold off?

If you buy groceries online in India, you already know the feeling. The same pack of atta is one price today, another price next week, and a third price on a different app. Offers appear and vanish. You add something to the cart, hesitate, and wonder if you are about to overpay. BOW exists to end that guessing.

What BOW does

Every morning, BOW checks the prices of over 330 everyday products across DMart, BigBasket, Blinkit, Amazon and Flipkart, using a Mumbai delivery location. Day after day, those checks build into a price history for every product. And once BOW knows what a product usually costs, it can tell you something far more useful than a price tag ever could: whether right now is a good time to buy.

That verdict is the heart of the site. Every product carries a simple signal:

• Buy when the current best price is at or very close to the lowest we have ever recorded for it.
• Hold when it is sitting in its usual range.
• Wait when it is running high for that item.

No decoding "50% OFF" banners, no mental math against a crossed-out MRP that nobody ever paid. Just a plain answer built from real observed prices.

Why we built it, and what BOW is not

Let us be clear about the goal, because it shapes everything about how BOW works: we want people to get their groceries at reasonable prices. That is it. That is the whole mission.

What BOW is not is a scoreboard for the platforms. We are not here to declare that one app is better or cheaper than another, because our own data says something more interesting: they take turns. These platforms compete hard, prices move constantly, and each one of them regularly offers genuinely excellent deals. The same product can be the bargain of the week on one app today and on a rival app next Tuesday. There is no permanent winner, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

BOW's job is timing, not tribalism. It tells you when a product, on whichever app happens to have it cheapest, is at its best price or comfortably within its good range. In a few days we will publish a follow-up article that digs into this with the data itself, showing just how actively the platforms compete and how each of them delivers great prices in its own moments. If you have ever argued with a friend about which grocery app is "the cheap one", that piece is for both of you.

A tour of the features

BOW launches with a fuller toolkit than we usually ship on day one, because we have been using it ourselves for months and kept adding the things we missed.

The daily catalog. The home page lists everything we track, refreshed every morning, with search and category filters to jump straight to atta, oil, dal, snacks, or whatever your kitchen runs on. Every product shows its current best price and its Buy, Hold or Wait signal at a glance.

Today's Deals. A dedicated page that surfaces only the products currently at or near their all-time lows. On the morning we took the screenshot above, 94 products were sitting in that zone. If you only visit BOW for thirty seconds a day, this is the page to visit.

Product pages with real history. Tap any product and you get its full price history as a chart, a verdict gauge that places today's price on a scale from Cheap to Okay to Pricey, plain-language insights about how the price has been behaving, and a side-by-side comparison of what every app is charging right now. When you are ready to buy, one tap takes you to the app with the best price.

The watchlist. Bookmark the products you actually buy, and BOW floats the ones worth buying to the top. You can also set a target price on any item, your own personal "tell me when it drops below this" line.

The basket. Build your shopping list, and BOW compares what it would cost to buy everything on a single app versus picking each item from wherever it is cheapest. Seeing the gap between those two numbers is exactly the kind of moment BOW was built for.

Price alerts. Turn on notifications for your watchlist and BOW sends a web push alert when a watched item hits a Buy signal, drops below your target price, or comes back in stock after being unavailable everywhere. No email address required, and you can switch them off any time.

Nothing to install. BOW is a website. It works on your phone and your laptop, loads fast, and asks nothing of you before showing you prices.

Your privacy: we simply do not want your data

This part matters to us, so we designed BOW around it rather than bolting it on later.

There is no account and no sign-up. Your watchlist, your basket and your price targets are saved only in your own browser, on your own device. They never touch our servers. We do not collect your name, your email, your phone number or any other personal information, because we have no use for it. Even price alerts are tied to your browser through standard web push, not to any identity, and unsubscribing removes the connection entirely.

The honest trade-off: if you clear your browser data or switch devices, your watchlist does not follow you. We think that is a small price for a grocery tool that knows nothing about you, and we would rather earn a daily visit than hold your data hostage.

It is also worth saying plainly: BOW is independent. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of the platforms we track. All prices are observed from their public listings, and BOW never handles your money. When you decide to buy, you check out on the store's own app, exactly as you always have.

The honest fine print

BOW is young, and we would rather under-promise. You will notice an Experimental badge right in the header, and we mean it: we are still refining the signals, the coverage and the experience, and things will keep improving (and occasionally changing) as we learn. Coverage today is Mumbai, since prices, stock and offers are checked against a Mumbai delivery location; more cities are on the roadmap. Prices online move quickly and can vary by locality and time of day, so treat BOW as a strong guide to when to buy and confirm the final price in the app before paying. And new products need about two weeks of history before their signal appears, because a verdict without history is just a guess.
