Amazon's Fall Hardware Push Brings Alexa Tablets, New Kindles and a Ring Smart Lock
Amazon introduces Android-based Alexa tablets from $229.99, redesigned Kindles from $149.99, and a $249.99 Ring Smart Lock with a hand-powered battery backup.

Amazon's fall lineup reaches from the reading chair to the front door. Three new Alexa tablets run Android with Google Play Store access, while a redesigned Kindle family and Ring's first smart lock tackle more focused jobs.
The interesting question is what each device makes easier: getting your apps, settling into a book, or getting inside when a lock's battery dies.
Alexa Tablets Bring Google Play Along
Amazon lists these starting US prices and configurations:
| Model | Starting price | RAM / storage |
|---|---|---|
| Alexa Tablet 8 | $229.99 | 4GB / 64GB |
| Alexa Tablet 11 | $329.99 | 8GB / 64GB |
| Alexa Tablet 12 Pro | $499.99 | 8GB / 128GB |
All three have aluminum bodies and Alexa+ built in. The 12 Pro adds a 12-inch, 120Hz display; its anti-glare Nanomatte version starts at $549.99. On-Screen Intelligence lets Alexa help with displayed content, but Amazon says it is off by default and requires opting in.
Amazon's announced shipping schedule set October 14, 2026, for the US, Mexico, and Canada. Shipping in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain is scheduled to begin October 19.
Google Play is the practical hook here. Buyers can judge these tablets by the apps they already use, alongside Amazon's assistant and services.
Kindles Keep the Focus on Reading
The redesigned Kindle starts at $149.99 with a six-inch flush-front display and 16GB of storage. Amazon claims up to six weeks of battery life. A 32GB version with an aluminum back costs $189.99.
The base Kindle and its aluminum version went on sale October 1, 2026. Amazon's announcement lists those models as available to buy in its named launch markets, while Paperwhite and Colorsoft become available for preorder "on a rolling basis." The eBook Reader reports an October 28 release date for both Paperwhite and Colorsoft.
The Paperwhite starts at $199.99, with an adjustable warm light and waterproof design. Its $249.99 Signature Edition adds aluminum rear housing, 32GB of storage, an auto-adjusting light, dock charging, and double-tap page turns.
Colorsoft starts at $289.99 for 16GB. The $319.99 Colorsoft Signature Edition brings 32GB, aluminum housing, an auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turns, and dock charging. These are Amazon's announced prices and features, rather than hands-on assessments of the displays.
There is also a $34.99 Kindle Click Bluetooth page-turn remote. Amazon lists compatibility with the new devices and Kindle models from 2024 onward. For someone happy with a Kindle released in 2024 or later, that accessory deserves attention before a full replacement.
Ring Adds a Backup You Can Turn by Hand
Ring's product page lists the Smart Lock at $249.99. Amazon says it is due in the US in early 2027, so this is a future release rather than an October purchase.
The distinctive feature is a built-in power dial. According to Amazon's announcement, turning it can restore power when the battery is depleted. There are four entry methods: a fingerprint reader, touchscreen keypad, Ring app, and Alexa.
Remote locking, status updates, and PIN syncing use Amazon Sidewalk, a shared network powered by nearby Amazon devices, rather than home Wi-Fi. Those connected features require Sidewalk coverage, which varies by location, so buyers without Echo or Ring hardware should check local coverage before ordering. For entry at the door, Amazon says that "unlocks happen right on the device". Amazon also discloses that the lock still requires FCC authorization before it can be sold.
The dial is a useful design idea, but the buying decision will depend on how reliably the finished lock works. Until launch, treat the backup mechanism as a manufacturer claim awaiting real-world testing.
For readers in India, none of these three Amazon announcements includes an India launch.
