Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Delayed to 2027 as Pre-Orders Go Live

Lara Croft's upcoming return has hit a brief roadblock, but there is some good news to balance it out. Following the PlayStation State of Play event on June 2, 2026, primary developer Flying Wild Hog, support studio Crystal Dynamics, and publisher Amazon Game Studios announced that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis has been officially delayed to February 12, 2027.

To soften the blow, the studios simultaneously opened pre-orders, giving players a first look at the editions and bonuses available for Lara’s reimagined debut adventure.

Here is everything you need to know about the delay, the pre-order details, and how this impacts the broader future of the franchise.

The Delay: A Strategic Step Back

Originally slated for a 2026 release, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis—a complete remake of the iconic 1996 original built in Unreal Engine 5—will now launch on February 12, 2027.

The development team cited two primary reasons for the shift:

  1. Polish and Optimization: Developing a high-fidelity, interconnected world with modern mechanics requires extra time to ensure performance is seamless.
  2. Avoiding the Blockbuster Rush: Late 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most crowded release windows in gaming history, particularly with games like Grand Theft Auto VI dominating the calendar. Moving to early 2027 gives the remake room to breathe.

Pre-Orders Are Now Live

Digital pre-orders are live on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam). The Nintendo Switch 2 version will also launch day one, with physical pre-orders already available at select retailers (like GameStop) and the digital Nintendo eShop pre-order to follow later.

Pre-order bonuses apply across all editions, and players can choose from three distinct versions:

1. Standard Edition

  • Includes: Base game.
  • Pre-order Bonus: "Survivor Outfit" (inspired by the survivor trilogy aesthetic, available with all pre-ordered editions).

2. Deluxe Edition

  • Includes:
    • Standard Edition content.
    • 48-hour early access to the game.
    • "Parisian Fugitive" outfit.
    • Post-launch story DLC expansion pack.

3. Collector's Edition

  • Includes:
    • All Deluxe Edition digital content.
    • A premium physical "Lara Croft vs. The T-Rex" statue.
    • Physical steelbook case.
    • Mini art book.
    • Croft signet pin.
    • Atlantean Talisman keychain.

What Does This Mean for Tomb Raider: Catalyst?

The delay introduces an interesting wrinkle for the franchise. The next mainline entry, Tomb Raider: Catalyst (developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Amazon Game Studios), is currently scheduled for a 2027 release.

With Legacy of Atlantis shifting to February 2027, the two games are now scheduled to launch in the same calendar year. While there has been no official announcement of a delay for Catalyst, industry experts speculate that it may be pushed back to late 2027 or early 2028 to avoid competing with itself. Currently, pre-orders are not open for Catalyst.

Final Thoughts

While waiting a few more months for Legacy of Atlantis is disappointing, the decision to refine the experience and launch in a less crowded window is ultimately a win for gamers. The Unreal Engine 5 showcase looked incredibly promising, blending the classic exploration-driven gameplay of 1996 with state-of-the-art visuals.
