Building my first gaming PC

Building my first gaming PC

As the title itself indicates, I am building a gaming PC for myself. Yes, you read it right! BUILDING A GAMING PC!

Well, I never really was interested in a gaming PC and was a casual gamer. I somehow got interested in PES 2020 (Pro Evolution Soccer) and started playing the mobile version. I knew it supported PC as well, so installed it on my laptop (specs: Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM and a 2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics). I thought the specification would be sufficient enough to run a game like PES 2020.

PES 2020 worked fine on my laptop when playing offline i.e. with the CPU team. By fine I mean it is at least playable. Initially, I never really bothered playing online as I was still learning to play it with a controller that was purchased just to play this game on PC :p. Once I got used to playing with the controller, I started my first online game. An opponent was found and the game started and there came my moment of realization. The game suddenly started lagging terribly. I thought this could be due to poor network connection at the opponents end, as my internet was working fine and I continued playing the game. Then suddenly I was thrown out of the game with a message saying that my system was causing poor performance and was making the game unplayable. Now, this got me a bit worried. But I still thought it could be due to some other reasons and I restarted my PC. Again the same thing happened when I retried playing online. I tried lowering down a few graphic settings, but that didn't help either. Finally I was convinced that my laptop was not capable of handling this game.

Time passed and I continued playing the mobile version and offline version on the PC. I got interested in other games too which I will talk about in the later posts.

I then decided to build a gaming PC for myself. A PC that could not only play PES but also some other graphic intensive games.

I am writing this article to help others trying or thinking of building a system for themselves. I will talk about the factors that will be taken into consideration in deciding the various components of the build. These components and other options will be listed as and when I write the posts. This will be covered in an 8 part series:

I haven't purchased all of the parts or components yet but have short-listed a few. The RAM is purchased and will be revealed in Part III. The other parts will be purchased when I get good discount deals or get impatient waiting 😜. I would appreciate any suggestions that could help me decide the components to be used in the build.

Excitedly looking forward to build my first ever gaming PC.
