Apple Bets on the Smart Home With HomeView, a New HomePod mini and the Apple Home Collection
Apple's HomeView display, HomePod mini 2 and cameras designed with LG anchor a smart home expansion with staggered launches and regional limits.

Apple's October 13 announcements give its smart home ambitions a clearer shape: a shared screen, a refreshed speaker and a coordinated accessory range. Our read is that the appeal lies in making a household easier to manage. The buying decision still depends on where you live and which features are ready.
HomeView Gives Apple Home a Shared Screen
Apple's HomeView announcement describes a 7-inch display for home controls, camera feeds, entertainment and FaceTime. It recognizes up to six people by face; Siri AI's personal-context requests need a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad running the latest software version, with Siri AI enabled in a supported language. Setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software.
Both tabletop and wall-mounted models cost $299 in the U.S., with availability beginning November 13. Apple's India announcement lists both models at ₹39,900 each. Wall mounts from Schneider Home cost extra: the Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector starts at $59.95 in the U.S. or ₹6,900 in India, and the Power Mount AC Wired starts at $79.95 in the U.S. or ₹8,900 in India. The Power Mount PoE Wired arrives in early 2027 at $129.95 in the U.S. or ₹14,900 in India.
Launch markets are Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, the UK and the U.S.; South African sales go through authorized resellers. HomeView is not available for sale in the EU. Apple attributes that exclusion to Siri AI's unavailability in iOS there. Siri AI on HomeView initially supports English in those eight markets. Apple labels Siri AI in HomeView software 27.2 as a beta.
HomeView also supports existing Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories. That makes it worth evaluating as an addition to an existing setup, without assuming every accessory needs replacing.
HomePod mini 2 Has a Software Catch
The HomePod mini 2 release puts the speaker at $149, with preorders opened October 13 and store availability starting October 30 in the U.S. and more than 23 other countries and regions. Apple's India announcement lists the speaker at ₹18,900.
Its S10 chip powers computational audio, while Sound Glow animates the top surface with music. It also serves as a home hub for remote accessory control.
Siri AI arrives through a future software update. Enabling it requires the owner of the home in the Home app to have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad running the latest software version, with Siri AI enabled in a supported language. The announced English rollout covers the same eight markets listed for HomeView.
Apple also notes that certain Apple Intelligence features using server-side models have daily usage limits, with expanded access to those features offered for a fee in the future.
For buyers whose main reason to upgrade is a smarter assistant, waiting to assess the HomePod mini 2 Siri AI update is the sensible move. A feature promised for later should carry less weight than one you can try.
Apple Home Collection Adds the Accessories
Apple's collection announcement names LG Electronics and Schneider Electric as collaborators. Setup starts with an iPhone tap; management stays in the Home app without another app or account.
The rollout begins in December, with select accessories following in early 2027.
| Accessory | Starting U.S. price |
|---|---|
| LG Indoor Cam Plug-In | $199.95 |
| LG Video Doorbell Wired | $249.95 |
| LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In | $299.95 |
| LG Floodlight Cam | $399.95 |
| LG Smart Deadbolt Lock | $349.95 |
| LG Smart Thermostat | $199.95 |
| Schneider Home Smart Thermostat | $199.95 |
| LG Temperature Sensor / Schneider Home Room Sensor | $39.95 each |
Cameras and the doorbell are listed for the U.S., Canada and UK; the lock, thermostats and sensors are limited to the U.S. and Canada. India is absent from Apple's listed markets for these accessories. Camera event history requires a supported iCloud+ subscription and covers 10 days. Apple says footage is encrypted end-to-end and processed on a home hub or through Private Cloud Compute.
What This Means for Apple Home Users
Our take: the strongest pitch is convenience across the household. A useful shared display and simpler accessory setup could matter more day to day than another list of assistant tricks.
Choose the problem you want to solve first: seeing the front door, making controls accessible to everyone or improving room audio. Then check the exact accessory, regional availability and software requirements. Apple's announcements make a compelling shopping list, but the staggered rollout means the complete experience still needs to prove itself.
